Working at the heart of local policing and community safety, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner, managing public correspondence and helping ensure the voices of Hertfordshire residents are heard. While also managing complex diaries and proving support to the Commissioner as he imparts his day-to day duties.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of policing, crime prevention and public service in Hertfordshire working closely with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire.
As Executive Support and Correspondence Manager, you will provide high-level support to the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), helping to ensure the smooth and effective operation of a busy public office. You will play a key role in managing the PCC's correspondence, diary commitments and stakeholder engagement, helping residents, partners and community groups access the support and information they need.
You will be responsible for overseeing the handling of enquiries from members of the public, elected representatives and partner organisations, ensuring correspondence is managed professionally, accurately and within agreed timescales. You will also coordinate briefings, meetings and events, supporting the PCC's work across a wide range of community safety and criminal justice issues.
The successful candidate will be highly organised and pride themselves on being one step ahead, identify challenges early and ensuring things run smoothly behind the scenes. You will be confident working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
At the heart of the role is supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner to make the best use of his time and deliver for Hertfordshire residents. From managing a busy and often competing diary, to coordinating meetings, preparing briefings, handling correspondence and supporting stakeholder engagement, you will be trusted to keep things running smoothly and ensure the Commissioner is always prepared, informed and well-supported.

About the role:
To lead and manage the scrutiny process and provide professional governance and complaints support to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. To provide support to the Chief Executive and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) when required The role will ensure robust oversight, effective board servicing, and delivery of scrutiny and assurance activity to support the PCC in holding the Chief Constable to account.
• Develop and maintain a good working knowledge and understanding of key issues affecting the priorities of the wider team and Commissioner.
• Compliance and governance - ensure statutory and governance requirements and processes are adhered to on behalf of the Commissioner, including drafting responses and briefings to formal reports. This includes taking responsibility for leading on the Commissioner’s Community Scrutiny Panels through facilitating panel processes, ensuring outcomes are accurately recorded and recommendations are tracked through to delivery. The post holder is responsible for managing data sourcing, preparation, analysis and reporting to enable robust and independent scrutiny and strengthening scrutiny arrangements to move beyond procedural delivery towards effective challenge and impact.
• Provide business support, including but not limited to
- To support the CEO and contribute to the business support across the office.
- Provide comprehensive and proactive executive assistance to ensure efficiency of meetings (e.g. EMT, SMT, APM etc) and general good planning and governance process across the OPCC.
- Support across the whole Governance Framework Arrangements. Some specifics include provide support to the Head of Governance and Scrutiny for the Commissioner’s governance and statutory meetings.
• Oversee and ensure timely completion and publication of statutory transparency requirements to the OPCC website to ensure the Commissioner is compliant. This requires knowledge of website maintenance.
• Responsibility for whole office day to day understanding of and compliance with GDPR regulations.
• Provide support to the wider team relating to the Police Misconduct and Pension Forfeiture Process.
• Lead on the complaints process including Chief Constable complaints, reviews and PSD related correspondence ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, deadlines and procedural fairness. Maintaining accurate records, audit trails and case tracking systems and identifying risks trends or quality issues and escalate appropriately.
• Assurance and Oversight support – support audit, inspection and assurance activity including HMICFRS responses and evidence gathering. Contribute to the development of assurance frameworks and tracking of recommendations and actions.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
• Experience of working in an environment with complex sensitive relationships.
• Understanding of the importance of scrutiny, audit, governance and risk management arrangements.
• Experience in driving work forward at a high pace whilst delivering successful outcomes
• Ability to interpret complex information and provide appropriate briefings to stakeholders.
• Ability to engage, communicate and influence stakeholders working at all levels internally and externally.
• Experience of customer service and handling complaints.
• Ability to analyse data and prepare strategic position papers and reports and deliver presentations to senior officers and managers.
• The post holder must hold a UK driving licence, have use of a vehicle for business purposes and be able to attend meetings across the county and to neighbouring forces.
• If using a private vehicle then business insurance needs to be organised by the individual
• The post holder will be required to work flexibly with non-standard office hours occasionally.
• The post holder will be required to undertake training as and when required.
• The post holder will be expected to maintain their continuous professional development to fulfil their role and to meet the requirements of their relevant professional body.
• Vetting is required, as advised by the vetting unit.
• Following appropriate training, to take on the role of Evacuation Marshal if no volunteers come forward in the post holders work location.
• The post holder will be expected to comply with Health and Safety requirements
• There is a requirement for the role holder to meet the probationary objectives set.
