The second year of the Safer Town Centres campaign has been launched and this year there is a heightened focus on tackling anti-social behaviour and violence against women and girls on our town centres and open spaces across Hertfordshire.
The Safer Town Centre campaign will build on successful work delivered across the county to reduce crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and improve community safety.
Residents can have their say on their local town centre by filling out this quick survey: https://tinyurl.com/2p9mbvne . Your views will help ensure local policing meets your local priorities.
The PCC is also launching a fund to support Hertfordshire Constabulary, local authorities, community organisations, voluntary groups and business improvement districts to deliver practical projects that make town centres safer and more welcoming places for residents, visitors and businesses.
Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire said, “I am investing in projects that tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, improve safety and make our town centres places and parks even safer places for people to enjoy. By working together with local partners, who know their communities best, we can deliver lasting improvements that make a real difference.”
Following a successful first year, the scheme is now being expanded across Hertfordshire, with a renewed focus on tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB), preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG), improving feelings of safety and increasing visible reassurance activity in public spaces.
The initiative supports the priorities set out in the Police and Crime Plan: Fighting Crime, Making Hertfordshire Safer, which places safer neighbourhoods, stronger local policing and protecting women and girls at the heart of community safety.

Building on success
The first year of the Safer Town Centres programme brought together police, councils, businesses and community organisations to deliver targeted action in town centres and public spaces across Hertfordshire.
The second year will build on that work by extending opportunities for partners across the county to develop local solutions to the issues that matter most to their communities.
