Countryside Clean Up Fund

Victims of fly tipping on private or unregistered land can benefit from funding to clear up the rubbish left behind and towards measures to prevent further tips.

The Police & Crime Commissioner ('PCC’) is making the help available to those whose land has been impacted by the illegal dumping of materials.

Landowners (principally farmers) across Hertfordshire will be able to apply for financial aid to assist with clean-up operations, including those which happen in urban areas (e.g., unregistered land).

In order to be considered for funding support, tips must have been inspected/searched by either local authority, Constabulary of Environmental Agency Officer.  

Prevention and Enforcement

In addition, the Constabulary will offer face to face target hardening advice to reduce likelihood of further tips. Further funds may also be available to match fund the implementation of recommended target hardening measures. This may include the installation of security gates, high-visibility signage, bollards, or digging trenches.

Where evidence is found linking tips with those responsible, criminal charges and fines will be considered.

How much can be awarded

Up to £3000 can be awarded per fly tip/location towards clear up costs and target hardening.
