When declared as the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner an oath of impartiality is sworn.
The swearing of an oath is important because it shows both that the Commissioner is committed to serve all the people of Hertfordshire, not a political party or any one section of their electorate.
Through the Declaration of Acceptance of Office Mr Ash-Edwards has promised to serve all the people of Hertfordshire with integrity and diligence to cut crime and protect the public.
He also pledged to give a voice to the public, especially victims of crime, and work with other services to ensure the safety of the community and effective criminal justice, while at all times not interfering with the operational independence of police officers.
The Commissioner is committed to serving all the people of Hertfordshire and has sworn an oath of impartiality.
With a focus on increasing community safety, they work to counter unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimization.
The Commissioner will work to give everyone equal access to the police and criminal justice system regardless of background or ability. They also maintain and develop good relations between the Police and Hertfordshire’s many varied communities and hold the Constabulary to account for delivering against its own commitments to equality.
Their office is fully committed to the aims of the Equalities Act of 2010 which provides protection so that people do not face discrimination based on age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership and pregnancy and maternity.
They will hold the Chief Constable to account for the exercise of his duties under the act and set out specific objectives in the Police and Crime Plan.
