Hertfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Jonathan Ash-Edwards, has welcomed the latest recruitment drive for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), reinforcing his commitment to neighbourhood policing.

While some areas are cutting back on PCSOs, Hertfordshire is actively recruiting, ensuring continued investment in community safety and visible policing.

The recruitment drive is part of the PCC’s recent budget, which prioritises strengthening frontline resources and tackling local crime and anti-social behaviour.

Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, said:

“My budget for the year ahead protects neighbourhood PCSO roles and puts additional focus on strengthening local policing, ensuring that Hertfordshire’s communities see a visible and proactive police presence.

“PCSOs play a vital role in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, and I am delighted that recruitment is open to strengthen our local policing teams.

“Hertfordshire residents want to see police in their communities, working with them to prevent crime and keep people safe. PCSOs provide that a strong link and are highly valued by the public for their problem-solving and engagement.”

PCSOs play a key role in improving the quality of life for residents by building strong relationships within communities, tackling anti-social behaviour, and deterring crime.

Watford PCSO Sadqain applied after seeing a Facebook post about PCSOs. He loves the role.

“It makes my day when I’m on patrol and someone says to me that they feel safe when I’m around,” said Sadqain. “I would recommend becoming a PCSO to anyone who wants to make a difference to people’s lives, help keep our streets safe and improve the community they work in.”

  • Full-time positions with shift allowances.
  • Flexible working, including some evening and weekend shifts.
  • Eight weeks of initial training, with the next cohort starting this spring.

Applications are reviewed weekly, so interested candidates are encouraged not to wait until the closing date.
