Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner jointly funds Christmas Taxi Marshals to keep Bishop’s Stortford residents safe this festive season

Christmas taxi marshals will once again be in place in Bishop’s Stortford town centre  this December thanks to funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer Town Centres Grant Scheme.

The initiative, delivered by Bishop’s Stortford Town Council, will provide two trained marshals on duty at peak times over the festive period to help manage queues, support vulnerable people and ensure that residents and visitors can get home safely after a night out.

The funding is part of the Commissioner’s wider work to improve safety in town centres, reduce anti-social behaviour and support the night-time economy.

Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Police & Crime Commissioner said:

“Bishop’s Stortford is a safe town and I’ve been working with the Business Improvement District and Town Council to make it even safer. I’m pleased to have jointly funded taxi marshals for the town centre in the run up to Christmas and New Year.

“People should feel safe coming into town to shop, celebrate and enjoy the festive season. By funding taxi marshals we’re helping to prevent disorder, protect vulnerable people and make sure everyone can get home safely at the end of their night out. This is exactly the kind of practical, partnership-led action that keeps our town centres safe.

This is what my Safer Town Centre campaign and Police and Crime Plan are all about, real action that helps people feel safer when they’re out in our towns across the county.”
