PCC reconfirms commitment to Hertfordshire residents by reducing the size of his office by 18%, saving over £300,000

Hertfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has reduced the size of his office by 18%, delivering savings of over £300,000 that will be reinvested back into community safety and in improvements to policing locally.

The restructure has been carefully planned and implemented over several months and predates the recent Government announcement on the future of PCCs. 

The Commissioner’s approach was to streamline the team and deliver better value for money, while focusing on delivering the Police & Crime Plan, supporting victims and working with the constabulary to reduce crime and deliver more visible policing. 

PCC’s offices vary in size nationally depending on local preferences and functions and have an important role to play in supporting the Commissioner to hold the police to account, commissioning services for victims of crime and overseeing police performance and budgets.

Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Hertfordshire Police & Crime Commissioner, said:

“While politicians normally expand their offices, I’ve done the opposite by cutting mine by 18% to free up over £300,000. Since my election, I’ve been modernising how the role of PCC works, with a firm focus on the public’s priorities. Taxpayers believe that public service should always provide value for money, and I agree.

“My priority is to make every pound count for the people of Hertfordshire and freeing up more money for policing and community safety is the right thing to do.

“Over the next 29 months, I am fully committed to delivering on the priorities in the Police & Crime Plan and working to make Hertfordshire safer. It’s important that I have the right team in place to support me with that work”.
