PCC joins night time Safer Streets patrol in Hertford

As part of the initiative, a package of measures is being put in place to help people feel safer in the night-time economy.

One of these measures is Project Vigilant, an initiative designed to protect both men and women from those displaying predatory behaviour.

It is perpetrator focused, looking at identifying such behaviour and preventing offences from taking place.

Several officers have received specialist training, to conduct regular plain-clothed deployments during the night-time economy.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Ash-Edwards joined officers on patrol last month.

He said: “The Safer Streets programme in Hertford is working to keep people safe in the night-time economy so people can enjoy everything the town has to offer.

“It was encouraging to see the hard work being done by both uniformed and plain clothes officers at the weekend to keep people, and particularly women and girls, safe. Predatory behaviour has no place in Hertfordshire and this is a great example of proactive policing to prevent harm and disrupt any potential offending.”
