Serious Violence Duty Funding: Call for Expressions of Interest
The County Community Safety Unit (CCSU), who are leading on implementation of the Duty within Hertfordshire, are now inviting Expressions of Interest from organisations and partnerships who wish to deliver interventions focused on reducing Serious Violence (SV) in Hertfordshire, aligned to the new Serious Violence Duty (introduced by Central Government).
Approximately £1million has been allocated to Hertfordshire by the Home Office in 2023/24 and 2024/25.
Background Information:
The SV Duty requires ‘specific’ statutory authorities including local authorities, Police, Fire & Rescue and Health, to plan and collaborate to prevent Serious Violence in their area, including use of intervention funding until 31st March 2025.
Police and Crime Commissioners are designated grant holders and distributors and are required to request funding from the Home Office and report on grant spend progress as part of the Duty.
Hertfordshire is well placed to meet the requirements of the Duty because we have a Hertfordshire Serious Violence Strategy & Delivery Plan 2021-2026 already in existence. The Strategy was informed by intelligence products including an SV Needs Assessment, which was last updated in 2021. The Assessment is due to be refreshed in 2023/24 and this work will be done in line with the requirements of the Duty.
There is existing senior level commitment to work together to tackle SV in Hertfordshire from the following countywide boards who are responsible for achieving the actions in the SV Strategy/Delivery Plan:
Community Safety Board
Domestic Abuse Executive Board
Drug and Alcohol Strategic Board
Integrated Offender Management Board
Hertfordshire Safeguarding Adults Board
Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnership.
Who can submit an Expression of Interest?
The opportunity is open to any statutory, voluntary/community or private sector group/partnership who can evidence appropriate governance/financial requirements.
What types of projects will be considered?
An initiative that focuses on any/all of following priority areas:
Criminal Exploitation of young people.
County Lines and organised drug supply
Criminal Exploitation of adults including ‘cuckooing’
Availability of knives and other weapons
Other priority areas may be considered if there is evidence, in terms of data/intelligence, to support it.
